After what transpired yesterday in VA Beach, it’s hard to focus on anything else. Many hearts are broken. But I did want to give a quick weather update for anyone who needs it. After a mini heat wave, we’re now starting to cool off but that also comes with rain. We dealt with many strong to severe thunderstorms throughout the overnight and those are still continuing this morning. We still have some heavy rain but it is not on the severe side at this point. Here’s a look at that as of 9:30AM.
The heavy rain will continue until lunchtime and then it turns into isolated showers. So the entire day won’t be a washout but there could be some rain that could put a damper on any outdoor plans. High temperatures will be much more comfortable in the low 80s.
So far today, we have seen heavy rain through parts of the Peninsula and in Norfolk, Portsmouth and VA Beach. Here’s a look at totals so far:
There will be some rain lingering through this afternoon but it won’t be as wide spread. But we can’t rule out a few heavy downpours, it just doesn’t look to be very likely. FutureTrak is showing those showers wrapping up between 2-4PM.
For Sunday, the heat returns but not in the 90s. We’ll make it to the upper 80s with a mix of sun and clouds. Majority of the day will be dry but a front will move through that is going to bring some rain and cooler air behind it.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! -Meteorologist Casey Lehecka
