How AI is changing SEO

SEO is a results business. So imagine if you have access to data that tells you precisely what you need to do in order to optimise your website and improve visibility in search engines.

Well, you don’t have to imagine, the technology is already available.

Although AI SEO is still in its infant stages, in the next couple of years it will dominate how digital marketing companies develop SEO strategies.

AI is already being used in digital marketing to gather data on ad targeting, determine the relevancy of content, identify customer segments for cross-selling, streamline marketing campaigns and analyse emotional values which have the most impact on a target audience.

But, currently few firms are using machine learning to improve search engines rankings.

Whilst using AI offers marketers insights that will improve ad campaigns, adopting AI specifically for SEO presents you with tactics that enable you to rank higher in search engines and get your ads seen by more people.

How doe AI SEO work?

First and foremost, the data gives you insights that enable you to optimise your website, build links with the high-authority domains and identifies the best keywords to use for each webpage.

All you have to do is structure content appropriately.

The primordial functionality of AI works using algorithms that identify patterns in user systems. This data enables the generation of insights and predictions that are often more accurate than human analysis.

But AI has now progressed into ‘deep learning’ which is capable of using raw data to determine a list of possibilities and perform the tasks.

deep learning is capable of using raw data to determine a list of possibilities and perform tasks

This greatly reduces the need for humans to code software and saves huge amounts of time and money.

Google’s RankBrain is a prime example.

This portion of the search engine’s core algorithm looks at search terms that have not been used before and compares the keywords against other searches to determine what type of results the end user is looking for.

But RankBrain also gives Google data about the relevancy of webpages against specific search terms.

This enables the search engine company to rank webpages appropriately against those search terms.

If website owners had access to this high-level data, you would know what information search end users are looking for. You can therefore publish content and optimise your webpages accordingly. That’s what AI SEO does.

Bringing big data to SEO

Machine learning accrues tons of data from around the internet and compares practices which deliver the best results. In Google’s case, RankBrain can identify the type of websites that engage end-users the most.

As a result, Google can categorise good sites from bad sites based on data that includes, information architectures, keywords, depth of content, use of images etc.

machine learning accrues data from around the internet and compares practices which deliver the best results

This data is then used a yardstick to measure the predicted potential of other websites.

Websites that have similar infrastructure as the yardstick websites, will rank higher in search engines. Furthermore, RankBrain assesses search categories and correlates these ‘yardstick settings’ as an industry-based measure rather than websites across the board.

For example, a website that publishes content about psychotherapy will have a different infrastructure and depth of content than an ecommerce site selling kitchen utensils.

Using AI for SEO purposes therefore narrows down the best strategies that are most relevant for your website. It essentially tells you what you need to do to outperform the competition.

Where can you get AI SEO?

Surprisingly there are few AI options available for SEO. At the time of writing only one SEO agency in the UK is providing AI SEO services.

Digipeak use a $3m supercomputer which has a success rate of over 99%.

The alternatives are a few raw artificial intelligence software tools such as SEO Powersuite and Muncheye.

At best these software tools help you stay within search engine guidelines, monitor keywords and identify a handful of strong links.

As search engines algorithms up their game with artificial intelligence, there is a growing importance for SEO practitioners to match them by accessing insights to similar data.

AI supercomputers do that for you, and because the software available on the internet is mediocre in comparison, online businesses can expect to find more SEO firms adopting multi-million supercomputers that do deliver results.

In the next couple of years, we will witness a surge in AI SEO.

IceLink now provides plugin-free WebRTC support in iOS 11 and Safari with the same IceLink API.

“Apple’s recent announcement at WWDC is gladly welcomed by our team,” states Anton Venema, CTO of Frozen Mountain Software. “Although IceLink has always historically supported native iOS WebRTC application development and Safari usage via our plugin, today we are happy to announce that IceLink now also supports WebRTC in Safari 11 without plugins.”

With the WebRTC standard now supported by all the mainstream browsers, IceLink users are assured that their website visitors will have an even more seamless user experience when using Safari. Prior to this announcement, visitors would be prompted to install the Safari plugin during their first visit. Now this step will no longer be necessary.

From a developer’s perspective, this announcement highlights the advantages of leveraging IceLink’s common cross-platform API that abstracts each browser’s unique WebRTC implementation. Developers familiar with IceLink will find the same powerful API in v3.0.13 as they have used in the past, and will require no code changes to take advantage of Apple’s new WebRTC support.

As Apple announces more details and rolls out support for more WebRTC functions, development teams using IceLink are benefitting from the drastically reduced development time and effort needed to react to each of these changes.

Vietnamese blogger Mother Mushroom jailed for 10 years

Vietnamese blogger Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh, also known as "Mother Mushroom," stands trial at a courthouse in Nha Trang on June 29, 2017.

Vietnamese blogger Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh, also known as “Mother Mushroom,” stands trial at a courthouse in Nha Trang on June 29, 2017.

(CNN)Vietnamese blogger Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the country’s authorities, according to state media.

Nguyen, also known by her blogging pseudonym, Me Nam — which translates to “Mother Mushroom” — was convicted of “conducting anti-State propaganda.”
The 37-year-old, whose pseudonym originated with her nickname, “Mushroom,” for her daughter, runs a blog which is frequently critical of the government, and covers issues such as land confiscation, freedom of speech and police brutality.
She is famous for using the tagline, “Who will speak if you don’t?”
Nguyen also came to the attention of authorities in 2009 for her outspoken views against China’s intervention in her country, including Beijing’s financing of a controversial bauxite mine in the Central Highlands.
She was arrested by the Department of Public Security on October 10, 2016, according to the state-run Vietnam News Agency (VNA), which referred to her in reports as an “anti-state instigator.”
She last posted on her Facebook page on the date of her arrest.

Condemnation

The US called on Vietnam to release Nguyen and “all other prisoners of conscience immediately.”
“We’ve seen some positive steps on human rights in Vietnam over the past few years. However, the trend of increased arrests and convictions of peaceful protests since early 2016 is deeply troubling,” said State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert.
Human rights and press freedom groups also condemned the trial and the sentencing.
“The Vietnamese government uses vague national security laws to silence activists and throttle free speech,” said Phil Robertson, deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch.
“International donors should not watch silently as activists like Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh are jailed for a decade for defending the human rights of all Vietnamese.”
She was the recipient of a Hellman/Hammett grant in 2010, which “recognizes courage in the face of political persecution,” Human Rights Watch said.
Ahead of her conviction, PEN America released a statement calling for her “unconditional release,” while the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) called the sentence an “obscene injustice.”
“The harsh measures Vietnam has taken against journalists like Nguyen Ngnoc Nhu Quynh should be an embarrassment to the country’s rulers,” CPJ Asia Program Director Steven Butler was quoted as saying.
“Quynh never should have spent a day behind bars. Condemning her to 10 years in prison for her writing is an obscene injustice.”
Nguyen was arrested and imprisoned for 10 days in 2009, for “abuse of democratic freedoms and infringing on the national benefit,” she told CNN in 2010.
As a condition of her release, she agreed to give up blogging, posting a handwritten letter on her site in which she explained that she loved her country, but that the government felt this was the wrong way to express herself. After being denied a passport two months later, she decided to blog again.
“I write another entry on my blog, that I gave up already, but they didn’t leave me alone,” she said. “I have to take the right to say what I think.”

9 Best WordPress Security Plugins to Secure Your Website

Wordpress security

WordPress is an open-source platform and it also is the most popular content management platform there is today. But the problem is it offers basic security that is not equipped for dealing with DDoS and brute force attack as well as spamming.

The worst part is that hackers get crafty each time WordPress beefs up security and many users are vulnerable to hacking and intrusive strikes. Protecting your WordPress website doesn’t only mean installing plugins. You have to make sure that you have done your homework by taking all the necessary measures to secure your website. Installing a security plugin means going the extra mile in order to protect your website from malware and other attacks.

Therefore, it falls on us to guide such impulsive users on how they should harden the security of their WordPress site by using the following plugins:

1. Sucuri Security

Sucuri happens to be one of the most recognized names when it comes to online security in general. It offers a mass of amazing features such as:

Security Activity Audit Logging: This feature is used to monitor all security-related events that regards your WordPress site. For this thing, any changes that occur with the application is taken as a security event.

File Integrity Monitoring: This feature compares a known good with the current state. If the current state is different from the known good, then you have a problem. When the plugin is installed, it will create a known good that is all of the directories of the root of the install.

Remote Malware Scanning: This is powered by the free security scanner – SiteCheck, which basically scans your site remotely for any malware.

Blacklist Monitoring: Another great feature of the Security Malware Scanner is that it makes use of various blacklist engines such as Sucuri Labs, Google Safe Browsing, Norton and AVG among so many others.

Effective Security Hardening: Sucuri is tasked with cleaning over 100 websites a day and that too with security hardening configurations.

Post-Hack Security Actions: No matter how solid you think your security is, it is inevitable that you will get hacked. That’s why security offers Post-Hack Security Actions that enable you to get around the problem.

Security Notifications: It’s useless having all those security features unless you are alerted of the issues and that is where security notifications come into play.

2. iThemes Security

iThemes Security is by far the best WordPress security plugin that you will ever find. It has over 30+ ways of protecting and securing your WordPress website. It also blocks suspicious users and prevents brute force attacks.

Seeing as how WordPress is a common target for hackers due to weak passwords, plugin vulnerabilities and obsolete software, iThemes Security aims to lock down WordPress, repair common holes, prevent automated attacks and enhance user credentials.

3. Jetpack

In spite of it not being a security plugin so to speak, Jetpack includes an array of modules that strengthens your site. You no longer have to worry about downtime, data loss or hacking anymore.

Jetpack intelligently monitors your site, guards it against brute force attacks, scans for malicious codes, secures your logins, and backs up all of your data. It also includes a 2-factor authentication module via WordPress.com. The premium plans let you use malware scanning and automatic site backups.

4. All In One WP Security & Firewall

Here is another commendable WordPress security plugin that is robust, stable, well-supported and easy to use. It even goes the extra mile by adding further security and firewall using a security plugin that enforces plenty of good security practices.

It lessens the risk of security by looking for vulnerabilities and by implementing the latest WordPress security practices and techniques. It uses a phenomenal security points grading system just so it measures how you have protected your based on the security features that you have used.

The security firewall rules are categorized into “basic”, “intermediate” and “advanced”. This way, you can apply the firewall rules without having to break your site’s functionality. Add that to the fact that All In One WordPress Security does not slow your site down and is 100 percent free.

5. Wordfence

Wordfence is a powerhouse of a security plugin is just what your WordPress site is looking for. Its web application firewall prevents your site from getting hacked as it is powered by Threat Defense Feed. It takes advantage of the proprietary feed, which alerts you immediately whenever your site gets hacked.

It includes a Live Traffic view that gives you a real-time hawk’s eye view of your online traffic as well as any hacking attempts that are made. It has over 22 million downloads and is 100 percent open-source as well as free. As long as you download from the WordPress directory, you should be fine.

It also features a Premium API key that grants you premium support, scheduled scans, country blocking, password auditing, real-time updates to the Threat Defense Feed, a two-factor authentication and also checks your IP address if it is being used to spam-vertised.

6. WPS Hide Login

WPS Hide Login is a simple plugin that comfortably lets you change the URL of the login form page to anything that you desire. However, it does not rename or change files in core, and neither does it add rewrite rules.

What it does it intercept page requests and it works on any WordPress site. As a result, users cannot access the wp-admin directory and wp-login.php page. So, you should be able to bookmark or remember the URL.

7. BulletProof Security

BulletProof Security is indeed a force to be reckoned with. It guards your site against SQL injections as well as other exploits. The plugin consists of a firewall that stops malicious script from executing before it goes for your WordPress core files. Its key features include: real-time file monitor auto-restore intrusion detection & prevention system, quarantine intrusion detection & prevention system, DB monitor intrusion detection system, JTC anti-spam | anti-hacker, uploads folder anti-exploit guard, security logging, HTTP error logging, PHP error logging.

8. Security Ninja

Security Ninja gives you the ability to go into hiding whenever bots, hackers or spammers come knocking at your door. It grants you virtually full control over what security features you would implement on your site. Its biggest trait is conducting over 50 security tests with a single click.

It is sad though that the free version does not include a malware scanner. But that can be rectified by purchasing the premium version of this plugin. When that’s done, you will also get a WordPress core file scanner and an event logger, as well as gain the ability to schedule your scans.

9. WP Hide & Security Enhancer

WP Hide & Security Enhancer is the easiest way for you to hide your WordPress core files, theme and plugin paths from being visible on the front end of your site. This vastly improves upon Site Security and no one will ever realize that you’re running a WordPress.

It provides a great way to clean up HTML by removing all of your WordPress fingerprints. You can change the default WordPress login URLs from wp-admin and wp-login.php to something completely random.

To Conclude

That about wraps up all of the best WordPress security plugins that are a shoo-in to give you a peaceful online experience and absolute privacy. If you feel the need to mention more for this list, don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments below.

We help you stop Flash crashing in Chrome

How to stop Shockwave Flash crashing in Google Chrome

How to stop Shockwave Flash crashing in Google Chrome

As far as Adobe is concerned, the bug that causes Shockwave Flash to crash in Chrome has been fixed. If you are still experiencing problems, ensure you are running the latest version of Google’s web browser. See also: Best web browser 2017.

Note that Google now disables Flash in Chrome by default and will ask you to enable it only when you visit a site that doesn’t have an HTML5 alternative to Flash. See also How to disable Flash.

For those who do wish to use Flash, the need to enable it every time will be a nuisance. Not only is Flash notorious for its security vulnerabilities, but it is today used primarily behind the scenes for things like analytics that serve only to slow down your experience, and drain your battery.

According to Google, “HTML5 is much lighter and faster, and publishers are switching over to speed up page loading and save you more battery life. You’ll see an improvement in responsiveness and efficiency for many sites.”

Flash has never been supported by iOS, and was removed from Android some years ago. Websites are encouraged to use HTML5 over Flash.

Stop Shockwave Flash crashing in Google Chrome

If you use Google Chrome you may have become used to the Shockwave Flash plugin crashing. Here’s what you can do to try and fix it.

Google Chrome, unlike other browsers, has its own version of Adobe Flash Player built in. When you update Chrome, it also updates the version of Flash.

Previously, the solution was to disable any extra Flash plugins, but as has been pointed out in the comments below, the latest version of Chrome shows only one Flash plugin. According to Adobe, there was a known bug in older versions of Chrome which “significantly impacted Flash performance”. This has been fixed – as far as Adobe is concerned.

Update Chrome

What this means is that, if you’re still experiencing bad Flash performance or the plugin crashing, you should check if you are indeed running the latest version of Chrome. If an update is available you should install it. To check, click on the three horizontal bars near the top-right corner and click Help > About Google Chrome.

A new tab will open and Chrome will check for updates and begin downloading one if relevant. Once this is done, you will see a Relaunch Chrome buttton, which you need to click to complete the update.

Disable all extensions

Type about:extensions into the address bar and you’ll see a list of all the plugins which are installed. Untick them all and see if the problem goes away. Sometimes it’s a seemingly unrelated extension which causes Shockwave to crash.

Update drivers

If you still have problems after that, the cause is most likely out-of-date drivers, so first check you have the latest graphics card drivers installed. It can also be caused by what Adobe refers to as “inefficient content”, so the poor performance or crashing could be caused by the flash content itself. If that’s the case, there’s nothing you can do to fix it – it’s down to the content provider.

Try another browser

If none of this works, then an obvious solution is to try viewing the website in a different web browser. These are the best web browsers to try.

Riyadh continues to sparkle in fireworks, spectacular shows

RIYADH — The Saudi capital city continues to sparkle in colorful fireworks and other spectacular events organized as part of the Eid Al-Fitr celebrations.

The activities are taking place in stadiums, parks and public squares. No matter how much one enjoys private gatherings at homes, both individuals and families are seen in large numbers enjoying the shows with phones held up to capture the beautiful moments.

“Believe it or not, Riyadh will become a holiday destination not only for Saudis but for all GCC citizens and residents,” Fahad, one of the attendees at a fireworks show, said.

“There are fireworks shows everywhere. There is one near everyone’s place. In the past it used to be held at very limited sites,” Fahad added.

Fireworks shows were not the only attraction in Riyadh; there are also such big events as “Hal Hilalu” in Albujairy district in Dariya.

Visitors to this historic district can see Eid themes and attractive décor. Food trucks, fashion corridors, artistes corridor, productive families showcasing their homemade products, Saudi cuisines, entertainment shows including folk singers, and even kids’ areas are to be found.

The General Authority of Entertainment is sponsoring the event, which lasts until Friday, the sixth day of Eid.

“It is an event where every member of the family can enjoy to the full. I personally enjoyed the folk songs by our singers. It was well prepared and the décor was eye catching. My kids enjoyed the burgers from the food trucks. My wife liked the fashion and the artists corridors,” one visitor said.

Theater has a presence at the Eid festivities with six plays varying from comedy, social satire to drama are being showcased. Some of them are for only men while others are exclusively for women. The plays gather a wide range of famous actors from the Gulf like Ameera Mohammed and social media celebrities such as Areej Abdullah.

“Women’s theater had a poor presence over the last few years. There was very limited audience. However, we tried this year to have a better participation during the Eid holidays,” a female director said.

One of the new themes this Eid is a big event that takes place at Durrat Arriyadh, lasting for several days. The event named “Our Scene is Marrakech”, where all cuisine, fashion, entertainment and folklore shows are from Morocco.

“It is a new idea to bring folklore bands, cooks and fashion designers are from other cultures. It is a very interesting idea and help bring cultures together,” said one visitor.

Men’s fashion weeks: relying on American TV-inspired themes of days gone by

Men’s fashion weeks: relying on American TV-inspired themes of days gone by

If the garments shown last week at men’s fashion week in Paris are any indication of how men will be dressing come spring/summer next year, we are in for a bit of a shock.

Luxury designers seem to be in on some sort of market secret to which the public is not yet privy – one that demands an influx of Hawaiian-style shirts and colourful Harrington jackets.

Menswear has been heavily influenced by sport – graphic T-shirts, bomber jackets and athletic- inspired trousers have been popular of late. But brands showing at Paris took a wholly unanticipated approach with their spring/summer 2018 runway shows, relying on American TV-inspired themes of days gone by. They took to dressing their models at times as characters from old American Western flicks, and at others as stereotypical tourists vacationing in Europe.

Let’s start with the Hawaiian shirt – a cringeworthy item of clothing an example of which, typically, most American dads have hanging in the back of their wardrobes, reserved solely for tropical excursions with the family. Dsquared2 re-introduced the trend at men’s fashion week in Milan only days earlier, and it certainly continued in Paris.

At Balenciaga, creative director Demna Gvasalia took the image of the American father to heart, inviting his male models to bring their children to the catwalk. While some walked with toddlers saddled on their hips, others showed off bright Hawaiian shirts – garish yellow and orange shades, palm trees and all. Another version showed a triad of blues, pinks and purples in an abstract foliage-inspired pattern. A Hawaiian shirt on the Paul Smith runway depicted a tropical evening, with palm trees billowing beneath a large moon and vast sky full of stars. Another one illustrated underwater life, with fiery coral reefs and fish.

At Louis Vuitton, it seemed almost every second model wore one of these dated shirt styles in bright blue and red floral designs, stamped with Louis Vuitton lettering across the chests, or in light green or navy styles that could double as safari shirts. At Cerrruti 1881, the style made an appearance in a slightly more tailored, off-white version with brown- and mustard-hued leaf motifs.

Mustards and yellows stood out on the runways – a suggestion, perhaps, that the fashion-conscious man will step out of his comfort zone in terms of colours next summer.

At Hermes, a burnt-red, almost burgundy, tone was the highlight pigment, seen on knits, trenches and a crocodile-leather jacket. Muted, military tones were also abundant among the brands, as were the opposite: electric, cobalt blues incorporated into collections from Billionaire, Louis Vuitton and Issey Miyake, to name but a few.

Many vivid, neon tones were seen on vinyl materials – another throwback to past eras. Vinyl or shiny PVC and faux leathers were the fabrics of choice for raincoats, trenches, trousers and zip-up Harrington jackets. In some instances – like Berluti’s yellow vinyl jacket with a subtle sheen, paired with off-white trousers and a jacket, or Lanvin’s bright-green version, threaded through the belt loops of trousers and tied at the waist – the concept worked well, giving the typically cheap material a sophisticated, street-cool update. The gold rain mac paraded by Julien David might even have some selling power among men who favour flamboyance.

But, when plastic-y textiles were paired with bold text spelling out “Europa!” over checked and denim button-down shirts at Balenciaga, the cool factor was not all that evident.

A similar theme opened the Louis Vuitton show, as models wore uber-tight spandex bicycle shorts and sporty, contoured athletic leggings along with socks and sandals (just as the boys at Prada had worn a few days earlier in Milan).

Suits, for the most part, were of relaxed silhouettes – unfitted and at times boxy, again playing off the stereotype of the middle-class American man, rather than the tailored Parisian gent – though suits by Dior Homme, Alexander McQueen and Balmain were expectedly slim-fitting.

Hues of lavender and mint green were spotted on suits at the Haider Ackermann show, with exceedingly sagging trousers, displaying the elasticated waistlines of boxers underneath, and blazers unbuttoned, revealing bare chests. Styling was somewhat bizarre, with simple, black flip-flops completing the men’s looks.

At Thom Browne, suit jackets were either abnormally high, at waist length, or uncannily long, reaching mid-thigh. Gender norms were questioned, as some of the male models were dressed in button-down and pleated skirts and dresses, too.

Worthy of mention are the shirts that were introduced at Valentino. Conventional collars were replaced with long strips of fabrics – such as those used on women’s blouses to tie loose pussy bows at the neckline. Instead, one strip would artfully drape over the centre of the shirt, buttoned underneath the opposite side’s collar and then left loose, creating the appearance of an asymmetrical, haphazard tie.

To wrap up without mentioning denims would be irresponsible, to say the least, as jeans have become more and more acceptable in high fashion.

At Balenciaga, cuts were straight and slim, and at Junya Watanabe, the denims were patchworked. Not the most fashion-forward approaches, but it quickly became clear that these Paris collections heralded a more regressive style revolution.
